Dr. Sweeney is an R&D Staff member in the [Nuclear and Extreme Environment Measurements Group](https://www.ornl.gov/group/nuclear-experiments) where his work centers on developing new sensing strategies and signal processing techniques to improve the information collected from sensors in unconventional or challenging environments.** **Dr. Sweeney's interests combine photonics, microelectronics, and applied mathematics** **with specific research interests in optical fiber sensors, radiation-hardened electronics, graph signal processing, distributed sensing. Dr. Sweeney received his Ph.D. (2018) in Biomedical Engineering from Virginia Tech and his B.S. (2013) in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Arizona, both in the field of medical instrumentation.
