RTEThe U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Nuclear Energy awarded 23 Nuclear Science User Facilities (NSUF) Rapid Turnaround Experiment (RTE) projects June 26. The 2025 first RTE awards, totaling approximately $1.4 million, were granted to 23 principal investigators from different institutions including universities, national laboratories and industry. RTEProposals must be submitted by 4 p.m. MDT/6 p.m. EDT July 16, 2025.This award process offers an avenue for researchers to perform irradiation effects studies of limited scope on nuclear fuels and materials of interest utilizing NSUF facilities. Completion of RTE projects is expected within 9 months of award. Prospective researchers are encouraged to request samples from the NSUF Nuclear Fuels and Materials Library.RTE proposals are reviewed and evaluated for technical merit, relevancy and feasibility. The Nuclear Science User Facilities (NSUF) is the U.S. Department of Energy Office of Nuclear Energy's only designated nuclear energy user facility. Through peer-reviewed proposal processes, the NSUF provides researchers access to neutron, ion, and gamma irradiations, post-irradiation examination and beamline capabilities at Idaho National Laboratory and a diverse mix of university, national laboratory and industry partner institutions.
