The behavior of fuels and materials in a nuclear reactor environment is extremely complex and provides a rich field for scientific investigation. NSUF Partner Institutions offer world-class capabilities to researchers investigating this complex behavior.
Beamline
- Beamline partner facilities give researchers access to intense, finely tunable sources of x-rays, neutrons, or other particle beams — from synchrotron light sources to free-electron lasers — for non-destructive analysis of materials down to the atomic scale. Some facilities are further equipped to handle irradiated or radioactive samples directly at the beamline, opening up nuclear materials research that wouldn't otherwise be possible. These capabilities support structural, chemical, and microstructural studies across a huge range of scientific disciplines.
