- Biography
-
Dr. Vishal Soni is a Postdoctoral Research Associate in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at the University of North Texas. He earned his Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering from the same institution in 2019, following an M.S. from the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore and a B.Tech. from NIT Raipur. His research is focused on the design and development of structural alloys for extreme environments, particularly for high-temperature and radiation-intensive applications.

Dr. Soni’s expertise spans phase transformation mechanisms, alloy design, additive manufacturing (fusion and solid-state), and advanced microstructural characterization using techniques such as TEM and Atom Probe Tomography. His recent work has centered on Al–Ce-based alloys processed via Additive Friction Stir Deposition (AFSD), where he has demonstrated significant enhancement in strength and ductility, as documented in a recent peer-reviewed publication.

Previously, he worked as a failure analysis and materials engineer at Phillips 66, where he led investigations of component failures in refinery and midstream operations. He has authored over 45 peer-reviewed journal articles with a current h-index of 27 and has mentored undergraduate and graduate students extensively. His broader research vision integrates CALPHAD modeling, ICME approaches, and solid-state processing to accelerate the discovery of radiation-tolerant materials.
