Biography

Dr. Shalini Tripathi joined PNNL in 2019 as a postdoctoral research associate and is now working as a Materials Scientist III in the Energy and Environment Directorate. The emphasis of her research involves carrying out in-situ experiments in TEM. In carrying out these experiments Shalini is building on her exceptional background both in high-resolution TEM imaging and in chemistry of processes occurring at the nanoscale, which she began while in the IISc in Bangalore from where she graduated with a Ph.D in Materials Science.

Her research interest broadly deals with synthesis and characterization of functional nanomaterials finding applications in energy conversion and catalysis: the aim is to emphasize the role of electron microscopy at nanoscale in various energy fields.

Before joining PNNL, Dr Tripathi was working as a postdoctoral research fellow affiliated with the University of Connecticut and stationed at CINT (Center for Integrated Nanotechnologies, a part of Sandia national laboratories and Los Alamos national laboratories), New Mexico.

Recently, she has been awarded the IFSM Young Scientists Assembly Award: a part of 19th International Microscopy Congress (IMC19) 2018, Sydney, Australia.

Apart from paying her debt to science, Shalini believes there is “plenty of room at the bottom” to explore. As much as she enjoys looking down the crazy aligned atoms in the microscope, she is equally passionate about her interest in badminton and sketching.
