Sample Size
0.5-2.7" capsule diameter
Core Sample Height
25 in (Active Fuel = 20 in)
Core Functions
Advanced Fuels and materials irradiation, water-cooled, Be-moderated test reactor. Highest thermal and fast fluxes in the United States.
Unique Functions
NAA (2 PTS systems: 1) flux = 4E+14nv, Cd-ratio = 35, 2) flux = 4e13nv, Cd-ratio = 250, delayed neutron counting) Highest neutron flux, Cf-252 production, cold source installed in 2007. Runs at 85 MW power for most of the cycle except when they operate at 10% power for several hours for beam room RCT surveys, particularly after changing shielding configurations around the beamlines. During that time, they may also perform capsule irradiations in the hydraulic or pneumatic facilities.
Hotwork Facilities
hot cells, isotope processing, Irrad Fuels Exam Lab. IMET
Support Equipment
neutron beam instruments, SEM,
